Dear Sun El, Don't Come to Swaziland | OPINION

South African musician Sun El will be in Swaziland for the Farmer's Market on September the 3rd. We want to urge the artist to take into consideration how Makhadzi has been treated in the country before. This is especially in light of the recent and current political unrest. Dear Sun El, don't come to Swaziland or you'll regret, says this publication.

Don't you Dare

It seems like a relaxed atmosphere to be in. You wouldn't expect any violence to take place at a farmer's market. Surely you don't want bottles thrown around at the Farmer's Market on the 3rd of September? Don't underestimate us as pro-democracy emaSwati, we will show you who we are and what we stand for.

The event is about promoting agriculture in the country. Lifestyle, fashion, and craft beer are just some of the elements that will be used to achieve that. It's set to be quite a trendy affair, even though agriculture will be at the heart of it all. Sun El has expressed his excitement and said that it won't be the first time being at this kind of an event.

Where the Sun Doesn't Shine

One of the event organisers, Mbekezeli Dlamini, couldn't hide his appreciation on collaborating with Sun El. "This will help grow our brand as whole, this might just be the start of big things for us,” he said. While it's admirable for local organisers to be doing big things, they shouldn't ignore the possible threat. Those willing to sabotage such events with international artists just to get a point across might attend.

We want Sun El to acknowledge our struggle for democracy. He must know that he is coming to a place where democracy has not been attained. He must understand the possible risks involved when coming here. Some of us don't take kindly to insensitivity.

Do you think Sun El should come to Swaziland? How would you advise him ahead of his performance in the kingdom? Do you think he's being insensitive to the cries of the people? Let us know what your thoughts are, share with a fan of his, and FOLLOW FOR MORE ON SWAZILAND!
